Deborah Grace Staley
A painfully
slow reader as teen, Deborah Grace Staley decided she would
have to improve her reading speed if she ever hoped to earn
a college degree. So the summer before she entered King
College in Bristol, Tennessee, she went to her local library
and checked out a variety of books. She fell in love with
romance. By the end of the summer, she was reading a book a
day.
After earning
her degree, she tried out a couple of careers before she
settled into being a paralegal. Meanwhile, she kept reading
romance while her own stories kept spinning around in her
head, but now were demanding to be written. She had no idea
how to write a novel. So, she took three novel writing
courses at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and got
started. Four years and one baby later, she began submitting
her first completed book to publishers.
Deborah never
sold that first book, but she never doubted that it would
happen when the time was right. "To every thing there is a
season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1.
Today,
Deborah, in addition to writing, she works as a Disability
Services Specialist. Married to her college sweetheart for
twenty-three years, they make their home on five acres in
the Foothills of the Smoky Mountains near the shores of the
Little Tennessee River in a circa 1867 farmhouse with
gingerbread trim that has Angel's Wings. She has one son who
is a freshman in college and plays baseball.
Now that her
stories are out of her head and on paper, she's so thankful
for the opportunity to share them with readers! Her writing
awards include Duel on the Delta, the Smoky Mountain
Valentine, and the DandyLine. She was honored to be a
finalist in a number of other contests including the Maggie,
the Laurie, and the Ohio Valley Romance Writers' First
Chapter Contest. She is a member Romance Writers of America
and serves as President of The Society of the Purple Prose,
an intrepid group of Romantic Times BookClub
Pre-Convention Seminar Alumni.
